Linda McQuaig on David
Frum
Dear Editor,
Re: "Linda McQuaig replies" -- letter by Linda McQuaig -- May 16-18 --
The Financial Post
Linda McQuaig wrote: "I find Social Credit ideology almost as devoid of intellectual
merit and moral decency as [David Frum's] own form of Social Darwinism."
While I'm not a fan of Social Credit or Social Darwinism (nor is Frum, I believe),
I had to laugh at her statement. If anything is devoid of intellectual merit and
moral decency it's her own socialistic philosophy. The policy of government control
over the economy is intellectually bankrupt because it destroys the freedom (and
the incentive) of individuals to create, innovate, produce and trade. The policy
of punishing each according to his success -- which is the result of personal ambition,
creativity and productivity -- is morally obscene. This tribalistic principle of
moral cannibalism fosters corrupt politicians, parasitism, economic decay, widespread
misery and social unrest -- as history has amply demonstrated.
Given the overwhelming triumph of capitalism over socialism this century in terms
of peace and prosperity, one has to wonder about the intellectual ability, honesty
or real motives of those who still embrace the basic principles of socialism.
