Re: "CBC Quality Has Lifted the Standards of all Broadcasting"--by Hugh
Segal--Feb/15-17/97--the Financial Post
Dear Editor,
According to the paternalistic Hugh Segal, the government should force us to fund
the CBC for our own good. (Feb. 15-17) But his cost-benefit analysis omits the significant
impact of the CBC on driving this country disastrously towards the economic, political
and moral abyss.
The predominantly leftist CBC has championed virtually every disastrous social-engineering
scheme of the past several decades, resulting in -- uncontrolled government spending,
parasite- inducing welfare programs, a dumbing-down public education system, envy-ridden
egalitarian medicine, anti-prosperity environmentalism, a soft-on-criminals justice
system, nihilistic art, censorship qua political correctness, racism qua employment
equity, tribalism qua multiculturalism, etc.
Those who claim that the CBC is vital to our national unity evade the blatant fact
that national unity has significantly deteriorated during the CBC's reign -- and
unsurprisingly so.
In a capitalist society, individuals should be free to voice ideological poison --
censorship leads to dictatorship. However, it is a moral crime to force others to
pay for the dissemination and consequences of such poison.
The most tragic examples of self-delusion in history are the despots and dictators
who sacrificed countless human lives to what they believed to be the "higher
good." Hugh Segal exhibits the same line of "thinking."
Sincerely,
Glenn Woiceshyn
