Green Movement's Power

Dear Editor,
Re: "Too Much Green, Too Little Growth"--by Terence Corcoran--Jul/03/93--The
Globe and Mail
It could be worse. There could be nobody in the media willing to challenge the dishonesty
and destructiveness of the environmental movement. At least we have Terence Corcoran
to help protect us from those nature-worshipping zealots who, with the help of the
media, have exploited the benevolence and naivete' of North Americans in order to
grab power and destroy the economy.
In fact, worship of nature is just a smoke-screen for hatred of mankind, which is
nothing more than a psychological projection of self-hatred. When people abandon
reason they abandon their self-esteem and their only means of survival. The end result
is cultural nihilism. The same nihilism that led to existentialism in philosophy,
non-representationalism in art, and deconstructionism in literature, has now found
a home in politics via the environmental movement. Furthermore, environmentalism
has provided a haven for all those leftover Leftists who remain true to their altruist-collectivist-statist
ideology even though it resulted in the slaughter of tens of millions of people during
this century alone.
The same lethal weapon has been used throughout history by the power seekers. Preach
self-denial and love for some "higher" value, such as God, the state, the
race, the Fuhrer or nature. Cash in on any widespread superstition, lack of knowledge
or social ill of the time. Disarm reason by exalting mysticism. Induce fear. Preach
self-sacrifice as a virtue, and then, when in power, unleash the inquisitor to deal
with those unwilling to make such sacrifices. Is Rome burning? Is Paris burning?
What about New York and Toronto?
Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
Sincerely,
Glenn Woiceshyn
