Government's Don't Create Jobs

Dear Editor,

Re: Letter by Infrastructure Minister Arthur Eggleton--Jan/25/95--The Globe and Mail

According to Infrastructure Minister Arthur Eggleton, government infrastructure "investments" on bocce courts and whatever "create jobs." But where does the government get its money? Ultimately, by stealing it from those productive individuals who really do create jobs.

If a bankrobber spends his loot, does he create jobs? If a thief steals your credit card and spends it to the limit, is the thief a blessed job creator? According to Mr. Eggleton's logic, yes.

Until our politicians stop evading the difference between a producer and a thief, or between voluntary action and involuntary (coercive) action, we can expect employment and prosperity to keep declining. And, we can't expect moral behaviour from the thieves who are not politicians.

Sincerely,

Glenn Woiceshyn
