Dear Editor,

Re: "Schindler's List: Dealing With the Fallout"--by Robert Fulford--Jun/15/94--The Globe and Mail

If Robert Fulford thinks that the heroism of Oscar Schindler should be suppressed in order to stem the current rise of neo-Nazism and Holocaust denial, he should think twice.

Like many of today's intellectuals, Mr. Fulford has obviously failed to identify the essence of Nazism, which can be summarized as follows: 1) Reason is impotent -- race determines one's identity. 2) Reality is subjective -- 2 plus 2 can be 5 if the state decrees it. 3) The individual is nothing -- the state is everything. 4) Selfishness is evil -- the individual must dutifully sacrifice his life to the state. 5) Forget individual rights -- might makes right.

If one replaces "the state" with "the majority," or the majority's alleged representatives, then these irrational ideas are still thriving in Western culture, which is why Holocaust denial and neo-Nazism flourishes.

Schindler's heroic actions refuted Nazi ideology. He demonstrated that his race didn't determine his identity, that the Holocaust wasn't caused by German genetic make-up. He demonstrated that the individual can defy the blinded majority, and win. He showed the power of one man's reason and courage in preventing evil, thus giving inspiration to anyone willing to fight tyranny.

Sincerely,

Glenn Woiceshyn
