Fulford on Compassion Fakers
Dear Editor,
Re: "Seinfeld thumbs its nose at today's cult of compassion" -- by Robert
Fulford -- May 13 -- The Globe and Mail
Robert Fulford is obviously repulsed by the "cult of compassion" -- liberals
who fake compassion towards the needy in order to gain political power and/or esteem
from others. I can think of something more repulsive -- liberals who believe that
their compassion for the needy, sincere or otherwise, entitle them to legally loot
and enslave those who are ambitious, creative, productive and successful, merely
resulting in more needy people for their bleeding hearts to pour out to, thus generating
a vicious downward spiral toward misery, poverty, unrest and destruction. The repulsive
fakers Fulford chastises are merely expedients trying to cash in on the widespread
belief that self-sacrifice to the needy -- not rational self-interest -- is the measure
of a person's moral worth. When a culture accepts such an irrational-impractical
ethics, faking it seems more practical than practicing it. The real alternative is
to reject the evil ethics of self-sacrifice and embrace rational self-interest.
Sincerely,
Glenn Woiceshyn
