Collectivism qua "Democracy"

Dear Editor,

Re: "What Do We Do With Our Budget Surplus?"--Feedback Request--Feb/08/97--The Globe and Mail

To ask "How should we spend future budget surpluses?" is to concede the same collectivist-statist premise that created the skyrocketing debt. Who does "we" refer to? Is Canada a collectivist slave state where individuals are the majority's sacrificial animals?

The government committed a serious moral crime by spending money it had no right to. Rights belong to individuals. The proper function of government is to protect such rights -- via police, military and law courts -- not to rob Peter to give to Paul.

It therefore is the moral responsibility of the government to reduce spending as quickly and as justly as possible, pay off the debt and cut taxes. Canadians should also receive an apology from every politician who engaged in this massive case of organized crime. It's time to get Canada back on the road to justice and prosperity.

Sincerely,

Glenn Woiceshyn
