No!--to a Flawed Constitutional Proposal

[I wrote and paid for the following ad in the Globe and Mail during the vote on the Charlottetown constitutional accord in the Fall of 1992. The No side won, thankfully.]

No to an ever-expanding government and the "Divine Right of Politicians"! No to the power-hungry special-interest groups! No to the tyranny of the majority! No to more theft via taxation! No to a second mortgage on our future! No to blackmail -- the threat of separation and economic doom -- as the main incentives for accepting a vague, contradictory and thus dangerous constitutional proposal! No to the politicians who created the mess and made this country vulnerable to blackmail! No to the compromise of good principles to irrational demands! No to egalitarianism -- the march of envy, and a nice euphemism for communism! No to the socialists -- who define rights as the right to loot others, and who managed to get one foot in the constitutional door which they know is all they'll need to wreak havoc here! No to tribalism, collectivism and statism -- the principles underlying every dark period throughout history! Protect individual rights -- the only real democracy! Save Canada! Vote no -- even if the [Toronto Blue] Jays win! Vote No!
