Hugh Segal and Envy Politics

Dear Editor,

Re: "Canadian Conservatism Must Stay True to its Traditions"--by Hugh Segal--Aug/17-19/96--The Financial Post

Hugh Segal's brand of conservatism involves advocating whatever appeases the various "special-interest" groups, regardless of blatant contradictions. First he deploys divisive language designed (by Marxists) to create conflict between the "haves" and "have-nots," which implicitly endorses the destructive leftist notion that envy is a legitimate excuse for punishing each according to his ambition, ability and achievement while rewarding each according to his whims or needs.

Then, in the next paragraph, he has the gall to urge a political platform that won't "divide Canadians by class, income, region or language." Can this be taken seriously by someone who sanctions envy, not to mention the divisive tribalistic policies of a "distinct" Quebec?

Sincerely,

Glenn Woiceshyn
