Environmentalism and Media

Re: "The Mosquito at Your Door"--from The Economist--Aug. 26, 1997--The
Globe and Mail

Dear Editor,

The Economist article reported on the 1.8 million people dying of malaria each year, mostly children, and the shameful and inexplicable lack of media attention or research funding it receives.

This isn't inexplicable at all. As Terence Corcoran reported (June 28, 1997), environmentalists deployed "junk science" to pressure governments (decades ago) to stop using DDT, thus causing an upsurge in malaria.

Who primarily controls funding of research these days? The government. Who championed environmentalism, including its phony science, doomsday myths and anti-capitalist agenda? The mainstream media, followed by the
government.

Sincerely,

Glenn Woiceshyn
